Who are regarded as NPC's in this RP?
General Tourists [Abundant]-
The regular hikers, campers, photographers, etc. These are the people the Outcasts encounter the most, but are usually avoided. Late spring and summer are seasons of the highest activity from tourists, while most of the park is nearly empty in the winter.
Park Rangers [Common]-
Park rangers are the "big bad" for the Outcasts. Being major nuisances to them, ShadowClan never hesitates to kill any they see in their land. Sometimes on horseback, they patrol the trails, campgrounds, common areas for tourists, and inform tourists about the park. Along with the police or specialized rescue teams, they also aid in search and rescue.
Police Officers [Common]-
Similar to park rangers, the police patrol the park, most often Yosemite Valley or Tuolumne Meadows, to watch over the campgrounds and trails and arrest any disruptive or suspicious people.
Other Staff [Common]-
Other staff at the park include maintenance workers, the search and rescue team, fire management, and staff within hotels and other services in Yosemite Valley. The Clans often have to go into hiding from the search/rescue team's helicopters after recruiting a new apprentice. Besides that, the other staff play little role in the Outcasts' lives.
Volunteers and Stewards [Uncommon]-
Yosemite has many volunteer and other programs for college or high school students, and even children of younger ages. These are mainly found in Yosemite Valley, so only RiverClan has encountered them, though they are usually ignored.
Scientists [Uncommon]-
Geologists, surveyors, and biologists sometimes come to Yosemite to collect data and observe its wonders of nature. The Outcasts avoid them whenever spotted. They aren't threatening by any means, but it still isn't worth the risk to converse with them.
FBI Agents [Rare]-
Occasionally, agents and other FBI employees are sent out to investigate the park to look for any signs of the missing children, particularly the ones who left recently to join as an apprentice. After a few months, though, they usually give up the search for that particular person, and they are pronounced dead.
SWAT Teams [Rare]-
I don't think SWAT teams have ever been deployed in Yosemite in real life. But in the Outcasts' universe, when the 85+ original Outcasts founded their society and went missing all at once (which is quite sketchy), there were SWAT teams searching the park for criminals who they thought had taken the kids. Obviously, nothing for that ever turned up.
Loners [Rare]-
People who live alone in the wilderness alongside the Outcasts, and are friendly to them, often helping each other with food and other supplies. In the canon timeline, only two of these exist, affiliated with ThunderClan and SkyClan. In this RP's timeline, though, they would only appear much later on in the story, if role players even desire for them to exist in this universe.
Rogues [Rare]-
Outcasts who were exiled. If your character is exiled, they become an NPC from then on, and are treated as though they are dead. This is because rogues are isolated from the Outcasts, living in areas outside of Yosemite. Therefore, their whereabouts are never known for certain by the Outcasts; some may have even returned to Domestic society. Whenever Outcasts do see them trespassing in their land anyway, they are driven back out.
How do you RP with NPC's?
I am no expert on role playing in general...but, what I think should work for this RP is that the NPCs' actions can be mentioned in your post, even though it is from your character's point of view, and that you're only supposed to be writing about your character only.
Let's say that your character, along with your RP partner's character, are out on patrol, and are observing a park ranger from a distance. You could describe your character's thoughts on the sight, and so will the other character, but one of you at one point will have to determine what exactly the park ranger is doing. Does it look like they searching for the missing person that is your Clan's new apprentice, or just patrolling a trail normally?
Since the park ranger isn't played by anyone, this technically means that you can god-mod as them along with any other NPC. However, remember that you cannot describe the thoughts of an NPC, only their actions. This is still from your character's point of view, after all.
And of course, they don't know that those sneaky-snaky Outcasts even exist.
I hope this is helpful. Good luck!
